Police allege duo had stolen manhole covers and sewer grates

Two Saratoga Springs men were charged with criminal possession of stolen property early Friday after

Two Saratoga Springs men were charged with criminal possession of stolen property early Friday after police said they stopped their rental truck and found it filled with stolen manhole covers and sewer grates.

Mark W. Nolin, 48, and Daniel P. Haner, 54, both of Grand Avenue in Saratoga Springs, were stopped by city police officers Dan Mullan Jr. and Nathan Baker for traffi c violations at 2:30 a.m. on Congress Street. The officers said the U-Haul truck appeared to have stolen items in it.

Police said the manhole covers, storm drain covers and sewer grates were allegedly stolen from the town of Colonie. City police are working with the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and other police agencies to see if similar larcenies have been reported in other parts of the region.

Nolin and Haner were arraigned in City Court and taken to the Saratoga County jail to await a future court date.
