A downstate man is facing felony rape charges after he allegedly had sex with an underage person he met on the Internet.
Matthew S. Berry, 33, of White Plains, was arrested Friday by state police and was charged with third-degree rape, a felony, endangering the welfare of a child and first-degree unlawfully dealing with a child, both misdemeanors.
Troopers said Berry picked up the Internet acquaintance, who was younger than age 17, at the child's home in Washington County and drove to a hotel in Lake George, where he gave the minor alcohol and had sexual intercourse. They drove together back to Washington County, where police believe Berry got cash from an ATM, paid the minor and brought the child home.
Berry, who troopers said will likely face additional charges, was arraigned in Lake George Town Court and remanded to the Warren County jail.
