The United States Army Band, under the leadership of a Ballston Spa native, was part of the official presidential escort today during the 57th Inaugural Parade.

Col. Thomas H. Palmatier was appointed leader and commander of The U.S. Army Band, known as "Pershing's Own," in August 2011.

He previously served as commander and conductor of The U.S. Army Field Band, and is the first officer to command both of the Army’s top premier bands. Also, he has served as commandant of the U.S. Army School of Music.

Palmatier is a graduate of the Crane School of Music at the State University College at Potsdam.

He also holds a master of fine arts degree in music from Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., and a master of strategic studies degree from the U.S. Army War College.

In September of 2009, Palmatier led the U.S. Field Band and Soldiers' Chorus in an evening performance at Saratoga Performing Arts Center to honor Saratoga County veterans.

Palmatier writes a blog about the experiences of the U.S. Army Band. The band recently returned from a trip to the People's Republic of China. To view the blog, click here.
