The trial of an Amsterdam man accused of killing two people last year is scheduled to start today in Montgomery County Court.

Ivan Ramos, 31, faces two counts of first-degree murder. He faces life in prison if convicted.

Ramos is accused of killing Cheryl Goss, 46, and William McDermott, 56, at McDermott’s Locust Ave. apartment on March 2, 2012.

Police were called to the scene by a neighbor in the four-unit apartment house who arrived home and saw blood and noticed McDermott’s door ajar.

Goss and McDermott were found dead of multiple stab wounds.

Police arrested Ramos the next day on a charge of possessing stolen property in an unrelated case. He was free on bail in yet another case at the time of the killings.

He is currently serving a prison sentence of 11⁄2 to three years on the stolen property possession charge.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the Montgomery County Courthouse before Fulton County Court Judge Polly A. Hoye, who took over the case after Montgomery County Court Judge Felix Catena recused himself.
