Cobleskill is inviting people to Schoharie County for a weekend of fun aimed at shaking off the wintertime blues.
Cobleskill Partnership Inc. organized events for Saturday and Sunday in the village and beyond, including activities for children and adults both indoors and in the snow.
“Cabin Fever Weekend,” now in its fifth year, has expanded to a two-day winter extravaganza that brings guests to the village in droves, said organizer Jacqui Hauser, owner of the Studio for Art and Craft.
“It’s now a weekend event, people can come and spend the weekend and enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities,” Hauser said.
Ceramics, face-painting, pizza, crafts and a bounce house are among activities running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at locations including Coby’s, Gee Dee’s Place, Pizza Shack, Games a Plunder, Backstreet Music and the Community Library, among other venues.
Events at SUNY-Cobleskill, taking place from 2 to 5 p.m., include a Snowlympics outside with a snowball throwing contest, snow bowling and other icy activities. Also on the schedule are sporting events in the warmth of the Bouck Gym while the Bouck Theater features songs and stories by artist Dave Ruch.
Hauser said this year’s slate of events was put together to ensure families can participate — Coby’s restaurant and Gee Dee’s Place will both be hosting “Grown Ups Night Out,” while the Studio for Art and Craft hosts “Kids Night Out” with crafts and pizza and a movie.
With discounts and other activities at numerous businesses, Hauser said the event will also give merchants an opportunity to show consumers what they have to offer.
Events will continue into Sunday, when Howe Caverns is offering a discount on gem mining. Discounts also will be offered at the Canine Cosmetician, Best Western Bowling and the Studio for Art and Craft.
Many events require a $5 ticket and some come with an additional charge. Tickets can be purchased at Justine’s, The Studio for Art and Craft and SUNY-Cobleskill.
