Albany detectives have arrested a 48-year-old city resident who allegedly fired a handgun while inside a convenience store on Ontario Street just over one week ago.
On Jan. 17 at about 8:20 a.m., officers responded to The Stadium Deli and Grocery, 82 Ontario St., for a report of shots fired.
When officers arrived, the employees said that a man had entered the store and attempted to shoot them.
Darrell Heggins of Albany approached the counter and caused a commotion with the employees, police said. He then displayed a handgun and fired one shot at them while still inside the store.
The only two people inside the store at the time were the employees. They were not injured during the incident.
Heggins was charged with two counts of attempted murder, second degree.
He was arraigned in the Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
