Media/politicians mislead public to push through gun laws

I continue to follow the plethora of gun articles and editorials (both for and against) portrayed by this newspaper since that unthinkable tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and most recently since the newly enacted NY SAFE Act.

On a number of occasions, I would find myself so terribly disgusted by the manner in which the liberal media portrays the law-abiding gun owner that I have started to pen a number of these letters. But I would generally stop, as I realize there is just no arguing or debating with often irrational and uninformed individuals since they are either incapable or unwilling of having an intelligent and logical debate on this issue.

However, after reading the Jan. 20 paper, I can no longer stand the blatant hypocrisy and profiling of gun owners that continues to be displayed by our elected officials, but even more so by the media.

For those of you who may not have heard, further investigation into the Connecticut shooting has revealed that the modern sporting rifle (more commonly referred to as the “assault rifle”) was never in fact used, but was still in the trunk of the car the shooter drove to the school. I urge all readers to view the MSNBC video clip at http://video.today.msnbc.msn.com/today/50208495#50208495.

Most recently, President Obama had the audacity to criticize the NRA for their recent ads pointing out the inequalities in protection afforded his children while every other child in public or private educational system is left at risk. He chastises the NRA for using kids as pawns in a political game. Meanwhile, he is surrounded by a classroom full of kids on the front lawn of the White House while pushing his gun control agenda.

Certainly, as a nation, one would expect his children to be provided an increased level of security, but there continues to be reluctance by too many of our elected officials and gun ban advocates to provide even a hint of increased and armed security for our children.

Closer to home we see the Journal News Media Group felt it was their duty to disclose the names and addresses of all legally licensed gun owners in Westchester and Rockland counties. I am still unclear as to what that grandstanding accomplishes, but as soon as they [the newspapers] felt slightly threatened, what’s the first thing they do? Hire armed security. The hypocrisy just doesn’t stop!

Lastly, we witness an even greater abuse of power with the passage (under the cloak of darkness) of New York’s latest self-righteous, feel-good legislation that does absolutely nothing to make any child any safer today than they were two weeks ago. That’s because the only people this legislation affects are the law-abiding gun owners and dealers. Anyone who thinks otherwise chooses to ignore the fact that criminals don’t care about laws. Still not quite sure what it will take for the gun ban folks to realize that. I sincerely hope this is a wake-up call to the citizens of this state, as it is time to vote every one of these hypocrites out!
