Winter returned with a vengeance tonight, with snow causing multiple car accidents throughout Schenectady, including one involving a firetruck.
The icy and slick conditions caused accidents in several parts of the city, particularly on portions of Broadway and McClellan and Crane streets. At around 10:30 p.m., emergency personnel had to respond to the intersection of Broadway and Congress Street for reports of a multiple-vehicle accident, according to police radio transmissions. There was no word on the severity of the injuries.
Police attempted to close portions of Crane Street, McClellan Street and Broadway to prevent people from traveling on them.
Schenectady Fire Department Engine 3 was involved in an accident while trying to respond to an accident at the intersection of Crane and McClellan streets, according to scanner traffic.
