The Regal Cinemas at the Wilton Mall on Route 50 will be closed within the next month, according to local officials.
Mike Shaffer, manager of the Wilton Mall, said he has been informed that the eight-screen movie theater will close Feb. 18.
He said he looks forward to bringing a "new, compelling" business into the space in the mall.
Regal Cinemas, the largest theater system in the country, with 540 theaters in 38 states, replaced its older, smaller theater in the Clifton Park Center mall in the town of Clifton Park with a larger, digital theater in 2011.
Todd Shimkus, president of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, also confirmed reports that Regal Cinemas in the mall in the town of Wilton will be closed in the near future.
He said he found this "intriguing" because Saratoga County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state. He said it appeared that the Regal Cinemas in the mall were "a nice fit" and seemed to be well attended.
Regal Cinemas also has movie theaters at the Aviation Mall in Queensbury and the Latham Circle Mall, among other locations in the Capital Region. Some media reports indicate Regal will also be closing the Latham Circle Mall location and upgrading and renovating the Aviation Mall location, but these could not be confirmed Tuesday night.
