Schenectady police are investigating the origins of two apparently related blood trails discovered Tuesday night in the city’s Central State Street neighborhood.

Police said officers responded about 9:15 p.m. to an area near the OTB on State Street for a report of a large amount of blood found behind the bus stop. They followed a blood trail to 1850 State St., where a large amount of blood was found inside the building, but police said officers searched the building and found no victim.

Around 9:25 p.m., police said, officers found a man bleeding on the ground in the area of State and Elm streets, about two miles from the building. The unidentified msn was treated at the scene by members of the Schenectady Fire Department and taken to Albany Medical Center with a hand injury, police said.

The extent of his injuries were not immediately known, according to police.

Officers followed a blood trail east down State Street from where the man was found, and police said they believe the two trails may be related.

The department’s Detectives Division and Evidence Technician Unit were investigating the incident late tonight.
