Indoor track: Streaks edge Plainsmen for SC girls’ title

Seniors Taylor Driscoll and Keelin Hollowood each won two events Monday night to lead Saratoga Springs to a one-point victory over Shenendehowa in the Suburban Council girls’ indoor track championships at the University of Albany.

Shaker used its depth in the field events to win the boys’ championship.

With Driscoll winning the 600 (1:39.42) and the 1,000 (3:00.14), and Hollowood placing first in the 1,500 (4:53.14) and 3,000 (10:40.72), the Blue Streaks finished with 105 points, one better than the Lady Plainsmen, who got a tremendoous effort from senior Sarah Osaheni.

Osaheni won three events, and posted the area’s best performances in two of them. She won the long jump with a leap of 17-4, an area best, and also took the triple jump, with her 37-0 moving her to the top of the leaderboard in that event. Her third victory came in the 55 hurdles (8.65).

Also posting Section II bests were Shenendehowa sophomore Lundy Spinner in the shot put (35-91⁄4) and Bethlehem sophomore Grace Smith in the high jump (5-5).

Shaker dominated the field events in the boys’ competition on its way to 126 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Saratoga Springs (99).

The highlight for the Blue Bison was a sweep of the pole vault, led by senior James Steck (14-0).

Shaker senior Jordan Crump-King had a personal best of 44-9 in winning the triple jump.

Saratoga junior Jay Navin was a double winner (1,000 and 1,600), with his 4:31.20 in the 1,600 moving him to the top of the Section II leaderboard.
