BBL Hospitality recently donated truckloads of gently used furniture to Soldier On’s new Albany County Veterans Resource Center.

The center, located at 55 Heritage Lane in Colonie, provides case management and supportive services to local veterans.

“Part of our mission is to give back to the community by supporting effective organizations,” said Stephen Obermayer, president of BBL Hospitality. “As an Albany-based company, it’s an easy choice when the opportunity arises to support an organization that benefits our community and veterans in the Capital Region.”

The nonprofit organization Soldier On has served 1,052 New York veterans and their family members through two $1 million Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) grants.

Soldier On’s services to veterans include temporary financial assistance for rent, security deposits, moving costs, child care and emergency supplies.

Soldier On also helps veterans obtain Veterans Administration benefits and transportation.

“BBL Hospitality has enhanced and enriched Soldier On’s commitment to respond to the needs of New York veterans,” said Soldier On Chief Executive Officer and President John Downing.

The furniture donated was made available by recent renovations to the Residence Inn in East Greenbush, done by BBL.

In 2010, the BBL Family of Companies partnered with the Albany County Airport to develop the Stranded Soldier Program, providing complimentary rooms for military service personnel stranded at the airport overnight.
