A 10-year veteran of the Albany police force has been suspended without pay after being charged with DWI early Sunday.
At approximately 5 a.m., Albany police responded to a call about an auto accident in the area of South Main Avenue and Bancker Street. According to the caller, a dark-colored SUV had crashed into a row of parked cars on South Main Avenue.
Officers located a damaged SUV matching the caller’s description near the accident scene. The operator, Max Etienne, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and cited for unsafe lane movement and refusal to submit to a breath test. Police say he also refused to submit to a chemical test.
Etienne is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Albany City Police Court.
According to police, further charges may be pending.
The accident is still under investigation.
