Boys' sectional basketball: CBA pulls away in second half

Guilderland battled to a halftime tie, but Christian Brothers Acad-emy pulled away to a 55-41 Section II Class AA quarterfinal victory at Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday.

The four-time defending champion Brothers were led by Greig Stire with 11 points and Tyrell Ramsey with 10. Stire also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.

CBA was 7-for-18 from three-point range, while Guilderland hit just one of 13 from beyond the arc.

The Dutchmen got 16 points from Marc DeMoulin and 13 from Vincent Simeone.

CBA will face Green Tech, a 62-56 winner over Shenendehowa, in the semifinals.

Maurice West led Green Tech with 17 points, while Jizziah Carr and Ramion Burt added 16 and 14 points, respectively.

The Plainsmen were led by Jake Hicks with 16 points and Kevin Huerter with 15.

Troy held off Bethlehem, 55-53, with 23 points from Javion Ogun-yemi. Dyaire Holt added 15 points for the Flying Horses.

The Eagles were led by the balanced trio of Connor Morelli (14 points), Myles Bergere (13) and Mike Graves (12). The Flying Horses, though, held that trio to just two fourth-quarter points, a basket by Bergere.

Troy will play its semifinal game against Shaker, a 60-49 winner over LaSalle.

Andrew Holmes scored 14 points, and David Morrison added 13 for the Blue Bison. The Cadets got 21 points from Ralph Erickson, and Elijah Burns scored 11.

Argyle’s Joey Lufkin scored 36 points to surpass 2,000 points for his varsity career in a 73-50 win for Class D’s top seed over No. 8 St. Johnsville. Lufkin now has 2,020 points and is the eighth player in Section II history to reach the milestone.

Selsharay Pryce added 12 points in the win. The Saints got 20 points from Alex Hart and 11 from Dylan Klock.

Argyle will face No. 4 Germantown, a 61-53 winner over No. 5 North Warren, thanks in large part to 31 points from Nolan Lewis. Tyler Fuchs added 12 points, and Ryan Disher finished with 10.

North Warren got 13 points from Anthony Sapienza and 12 from Nick Sapienza.

No. 3 Fort Ann turned back No. 6 Hartford, which jumped to a 21-9 lead after the first quarter. The Cardinals came back to win, 57-55, with 27 points from Derek Durkee.

The Tanagers got 27 points from Tad Jones and 12 from Dennis Mullins.

Fort Ann will face No. 2 Loudonville Christian, which beat No. 10 Northville, 53-42, with 24 points from Mat Yamin. The Falcons got 13 points from Barclay Hayward.

Class C’s top seed Hoosic Valley beat No. 8 Rensselaer, 50-45, with 22 points from Ethan Ross-Hixson. Mike Pierre added 12 points, and John Rooney finished with 11.

The Indians will face No. 4 Canajoharie in the semis.

Rensselaer got 13 points from Shawn Pondillo and 11 from Tyler Victoria.
