Saratoga Springs City School District officials confirmed today that high school senior Seth Younes died Monday.
Superintendent Michael Piccirillo said details of the boy’s death — including the location — were not yet known to the district. The boy was on a cruise with his family during last week’s school vacation week, school officials said.
Piccirillo said school psychologists and high school guidance counselors were made available Tuesday to students who may have a hard time dealing with the loss of their classmate.
School officials described Younes as a popular student in good academic standing and respectful of his teachers. He was enrolled in the 21st Century Academic Program at the high school. This program was started last year with 35 students but has grown to 80 students this year. The classes are project-based rather than subject-based but include math, science, English, and social studies as part of a given project.
Piccirillo said 21st Century staff members were providing to support to the students in the program who were close to Younes. Funeral arrangements for the young man have not yet been announced.
