A Saratoga County Sheriff's K-9, Nio, aided patrol units in nabbing a suspect in an attempted robbery early Thursday.
At 3:28 a.m., sheriff's deputies responded to a report of an attempted robbery at the Stewart's Shop at 801 Route 67 in the town of Ballston.
It is alleged that the suspect brandished what appeared to be a pistol in an attempt to rob the store, according to the report.
Patrol units responded to the scene along with Nio and his handler.
Ballston Spa police also assisted, locating a man who matched the desciption of the suspect loading a bicycle onto a vehicle on Underpass Road in Ballston. At the same time, Nio continued to track the suspect to the parked vehicle and it was there that Kenneth Geel, 48, of 6C Cramer Woods Drive, Ballston Spa, was taken into custody.
Geel was subsequently charged with attempted robbery in the second degree. A BB gun resembling a Beretta handgun was recovered from the suspect's property, according to the sheriff's office.
He was arraigned in Malta Town Court and remanded to Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bail bond and will answer to the charge at a later date.
