The ownership of Circus Cafe at 392 Broadway and Sperry’s restaurant on Caroline Street will be changing in the near future under an agreement described Thursday as “amicable.”
Christel and Colin MacLean said in a statement: “Due to differences in direction, the MacLeans and the majority partners of Circus Cafe and Sperry’s have agreed that the MacLeans will purchase the majority ownership of Circus Cafe and that, in a separate transaction, the majority shareholders will purchase the MacLeans’ ownership interest in Sperry’s.”
“This is an amicable parting of the ways and all parties wish one another well,” Christel MacLean said.
One of the partners at Sperry’s is Saratoga Springs Mayor Scott Johnson.
“We took one of Saratoga’s historic landmark restaurants and in just 21⁄2 years increased sales tremendously,” Christel MacLean said, referring to Sperry’s. “This is in addition to the coup of bringing certified Master Chef Dale Miller and his handpicked team to the culinary helm of the restaurant, completing a top-to-bottom classical renovation, culminating with the completion in May of a multilevel courtyard and patio bar designed by Colin MacLean.”
Miller is expected to stay at Sperry’s.
The MacLeans will be announcing major changes at the popular Circus Cafe in the coming weeks, Christel MacLean said.
