Carson Puriefoy scored 17 points, and Stony Brook won its sixth straight game, defeating Albany, 75-70, in each team’s America East Conference regular-season finale Sunday.

The Seawolves (23-6, 14-2 America East Conference) trailed, 65-64, at 4:17 after UAlbany’s Mike Black hit two free throws. Stony Brook’s Ron Bracey answered with a go-ahead jumper, and the Seawolves hit their last seven free throws to lock up the win.

With the loss and Hartford’s win over Vermont, UAlbany (21-10, 9-7) falls into the fourth seed for the America East tournament, which the Great Danes will host. The Danes will face Maine in the first round Saturday at SEFCU Arena at 8:30 p.m.

Stony Brook had already assured itself the top seed in the tournament, and with the win, matched its best record ever in AE play. The Seawolves play eighth-seeded Binghamton at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Stony Brook entered with the second-best defensive field-goal percentage (36.8 percent) in the country, but Albany shot 56.5 percent (26-for-46).

The Danes also outrebounded the Seawolves, 26-22. However, the Danes committed 19 turnovers.
