Albany girls fall short in regional finals, 50-49

Defending state champion Cic­ero-North Syracuse topped Albany, 51-49, with 20 points from Abbey Timpano Saturday in the In the Class AA girls’ regional final at Onondaga Community College.

Section III’s Northstars (19-3) made 14 straight free throws in the fourth quarter, during which time Timpano went 10-for-10 from the line.

Albany (20-2) got 12 points from Big 10 Player of the Year and New York State Miss Basketball finalist Emia Willingham-Hurst. Mylah Chandler added 11 points and Ayana Hunter 10.

Winners in the regional finals earn a spot in the state semifinals.

Mary Pattison scored 26 points to lead Troy past Section X champ Massena, 62-45, in the Class A regional final. She hit four three-pointers and was 6-for-8 at the stripe. Meghan Driscoll added 10 points for the Flying Horses (18-5).

Salmon River, of Section X, beat Watervliet in a Class B game, 73-65.

Logan Snow’s 20 points led Section VII’s AuSable Valley (19-2) past defending state champion Hoosic Valley, 48-43, in the Class C regional finals.

The Indians (20-4) got 29 points from Cassidy Chapko.

Fort Edward’s Taylor Boucher scored 25 points in a 64-45 Class D win over Hammond (20-3) of Section X.

Meghan Hendricks added 12 points for Fort Edward (22-0), and Sam Godfrey scored 10 points.

In boys’ action, Javion Ogun­yemi scored a game-high 21 points to lead Troy (19-3) past Section III’s Henninger, 60-52, in the Class AA regional finals. Dyaire Holt added 15 points, and Jerrell Reid scored 13. Henninger (18-4) was led by Romero Collier with 17 points.

Watervliet won its Class B game, 73-53, over Section X’s Ogdensburg.

Lake George got 21 points from Joel Wincowski in a 58-42 Class C win over AuSable Valley. Ethan Wincowski had nine points and 12 rebounds, and Connor McCoy scored 11 points for the Warriors.

Argyle’s Joey Lufkin scored 24 points in a 77-59 Class D win over Madrid-Waddington (17-8) of Section X. Delsharay Pryce scored 22 for the Scots (22-0), Brock Liddle added 11 points, and Riley Schmaler had 10.
