The teenager believed to have stabbed a state trooper in the neck at the state Capitol more than a week ago has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and more.

Eric Green, 18, of Brooklyn, was arraigned in Albany County Court this morning on a range of felony charges, including first-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, aggravated assault upon a police officer and two counts of first-degree robbery, according to a news release issued today by the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

The indictment alleges that on March 3, Green attempted to cause the death of a uniformed, on-duty state police trooper by stabbing him with a dangerous instrument. The attack, which occurred around 3:20 p.m. near the Empire State Plaza, sent Trooper Rodney Smith to the hospital with serious injuries that required emergency surgery.

After pleading not guilty to all of the above charges, Green was remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.

Major Offenses Unit Bureau Chief Eric Galarneau is handling the prosecution of this case.
