State police today identified the man killed in a Saturday evening fire in Wilton.
Killed was 62-year-old Emilio J. Jordan, Jr., of Sunshine Drive. The cause of the fire remained under investigation, but no foul play is suspected, police said.
Jordan, who used a wheelchair, was pronounced dead at the scene. Jordan used the wheelchair due to medical conditions and received home health care on a regular basis, police said.
It was a home health care aide who discovered the fire, police said. The aide arrived at about 7 p.m. Saturday to find the home filled with heavy smoke.
The aide was only able to enter the home a short distance before being forced out by the smoke and extreme heat.
Wilton and Gansevoort fire departments responded, extinguishing the flames.
The cause and origin of the fire remains to be determined, though there is no suspicion of foul play, police said. Continuing to investigate are the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Saratoga County Arson Investigation Team.
An autopsy was scheduled for today at Albany Medical Center.
Jordan’s dog survived the fire and is being adopted by a concerned citizen, police said.
