An escalating argument over a children’s basketball game ended Sunday evening in the stabbings of two adults.

Amsterdam police received a 911 call at approximately 4:45 p.m. Sunday reporting a disturbance at 106 Woodrow Rd.

Before they could get there, another 911 call reported a woman had been stabbed and needed medical attention.

When they arrived at the scene, they found a man and a woman, both stabbed on the chest and abdomen. The wounds were not life-threatening, police said.

The argument started earlier between two children during a basketball game, according to a police news release. Before the stabbing, several women arrived at the residence. According to police, the violence was carried out by at least two women who then fled the scene in a blue vehicle with out-of-state plates.

Shortly after the incident, police stopped a car fitting that description and question the four women inside. No weapons were found and no charges have been filed.

Both victims were treated at the scene by GAVAC personnel and eventually transported to Albany Medical Center.
