A sixth-grader has won the Niskayuna High School German Program’s 2013 T-shirt Design Contest.
Dan Frankel, who attends Van Antwerp Middle School, designed the winning entry. He was awarded a $150 first-place prize and received a congratulatory letter from Jakob Von Wagner, head of the Cultural Affairs Department at the German Consulate General New York.
The winning design displays words in German that say, “Oh my God, German rocks!”
It was unveiled at an after-school celebration, complete with German cultural icons, such as a wooden Volkswagen Beetle.
Guests sampled German cookies, candies, and chocolates.
Brian Caffrey, a seventh-grade student at Iroquois Middle School, received $50 for second place.
There were four honorable mention winners: Dan Finn (12th grade, high school), Hannah Sive (12th grade, high school), Dane Feiden (8th grade, Van Antwerp) and Sara McCormack (8th grade, Iroquois). They all received gift bags filled with German chocolates and assorted candies.
The contest was sponsored by the high school German program and Northeast Foot Care of Amsterdam.
