A Greenwich man has been charged with felony assault following an incident early Sunday morning at a bar that police said left a Mechanicville man critically injured.
Police said officers were called to the scene of an assault at the “End Zone,” a sports bar and restaurant on Park Avenue, just after 4 a.m. They said a 24-year-old city resident was found there with significant head injuries.
Brandin Marble, 23, is accused of striking the victim in the head with a beer bottle and then repeatedly punching him in the head while he lay defenseless and unconscious on the ground.
Police said emergency medical services personnel and firefighters responded once the scene was secured and the victim was taken to Albany Medical Center with serious head injuries. He is unconscious and in critical condition, police said.
Police Lt. William J. Rabbitt Jr. said the motive isn’t known.
“We have multiple reports of them talking, but it didn’t appear to be a heated conversation,” he said. “Words were exchanged, but we don’t know what they were.”
There is surveillance video of the incident, said Police Chief Joseph Waldron.
Marble was charged by city police with first-degree assault, a class B felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned in City Court and sent to the Saratoga County jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
