State police say they caught a Moreau man in the process of selling an assault weapon after he advertised it for sale on Facebook.
An investigation into the alleged sale began when state police received a tip through the state’s new gun tip line that 51-year-old William G. Greene was offering an assault weapon for sale on a Facebook page for gun enthusiasts. Troopers said an undercover investigator responded to the posting, eventually meeting with Greene and purchasing the weapon, an RGuns .223-5.56 caliber assault style rifle with a pistol grip.
Greene, of Pine Road, was charged with unlawful transfer of an assault weapon and disposing of a weapon without a NICS background check, both misdemeanors. He was released on a ticket to appear in Moreau Town Court.
