Albany High point guard Emia Willingham-Hurst has made it official and signed a national letter of intent to attend Siena and play basketball for second-year head coach Ali Jaques.

She joins Halee Adams, Megan Donohue and Brianna Logan as Jaques’ first recruiting class.

“I am very excited that Emia has decided to join our program,” Jaques said in a Siena statement. “She has proven to be one of the top guards in our area again this season and her athleticism and ability to score will have an immediate impact on our team. She is also a tremendous student and young woman off the court and the Siena community will enjoy watching her toughness and work ethic displayed every time she steps on the court.”

An explosive 5-foot-8 combo guard, Willingham-Hurst was named the Section II Class AA MVP, Big 10 Player of the Year and a Daily Gazette first-team all-star for the Lady Falcons.

She led Albany to a 20-2 record, the school’s first Section II championship in 15 years and a berth in the state quarterfinals.

One of five finalists for the Miss New York Basketball Award, Willingham-Hurst finished her high school career as the third-leading scorer in Albany High history with 1,441 points. Willingham-Hurst averaged 19.7 points, 8.9 rebounds, 5.2 steals and 2.1 assists per game.

A varsity player since eighth grade, Willingham-Hurst led the Lady Falcons to three consecutive Big 10 titles and was named her team’s MVP each of those years.

Willingham-Hurst, who played AAU basketball for the Albany City Rocks, was also recently named a New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports Class AA fourth-team selection.

Willingham joins a Siena team that went 13-18 and advanced to the MAAC semifinals for the third year in a row.
