Authorities say emergency crews have had to rescue four men from the ice on an Adirondack lake after three of them broke through and wound up in the frigid water.

Emergency officials in the village of Saranac Lake tell the Adirondack Daily Enterprise say two of the men were ice fishing on Upper Saranac Lake Wednesday afternoon when they went through the ice. Two other men went to their aid, and one of them also broke through the ice about 50 to 75 yards from the lake’s western shore.

The three men managed to get back onto the ice by using a rope tied to a tree. Rescue crews helped all four get to shore.

Authorities say the men were taken to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake for treatment.
