Spartans stage dramatic softball rally

Meghan Heck hit a two-out, two-run double to cap a crazy comeback as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Bethlehem in a Suburban Council game, 5-4.

Trailing, 4-0, Kristen Parker and Ashley Agan singled and doubled before Leah Pennings hit a three-run home run for the Spartans (2-2 Suburban). Bri Skpowski and Brittany Ryan both singled to set up Heck’s game-ending hit.

Meagan Sullivan and Mikayla Shade both doubled for Bethlehem, Sullivan driving in a run.

Colonie starter Kelly Lane struck out eight batters in four innings of a 10-0 win over Niskayuna, then turned around and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and three RBI. Kassidy Ogden and Sam Blum both were 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Stephanie Reinhardt was 2-for-3 with a double for the Garnet Raiders (4-1 Suburban).

Alana VanDenburg smacked an RBI double and singled for Col­umbia (5-0, 5-0) in a 3-0 win over Ballston Spa. Samara Perry scored on VanDenburg’s first-inning double and singled twice in the win. Nia Moore doubled.

Ballston Spa (0-5, 0-5) got a double from Jennifer Groat.

Saratoga Springs edged Moh­onasen, 6-5, with Kristi Burgess hitting the deciding sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. She was 1-for-3 with two RBI for the Blue Streaks. Bailey Motala was 2-for-3 with three runs, a double and an RBI. Marissa Folts went 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Joelie Flynn was 2-for-2.

Mohonasen got a home run from Casandra Lupi as part of her 2-for-4 day with a run and two RBI. Maria Patterson went 4-for-4 with a double and two runs.

Scotia-Glenville’s Jennifer Mayette and Zoe Purvis combined to one-hit Gloversville in a 6-0 Foothills Council win. Mayette struck out five over the first four innings before yielding to Purvis.

At the plate, Mayette tripled, doubled and singled. Ali Stewart tripled, doubled and drove in three runs. Karina Roman, Kayla De Aprix and Purvis each had two singles for the Tartans (2-2 Foothills, 4-2 overall).

Kylie Liberty hit a two-run home run and two singles to lead Mechanicville past Schalmont, 5-1, in the Colonial Council.

Kali DeMarco doubled for the Red Raiders (5-0) in the battle of two previously unbeaten teams. The Sabres (4-1) got a double, a single and an RBI from Lauren Mahar, and Emily McLaughlin doubled and scored.

Julian Broadwell was 2-for-3 with two RBI as Cobleskill-Richmondville (1-3) topped Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, 7-2. Paige Roberts added a single, a double and an RBI.

Jen VanAlphen had two doubles and an RBI, and Aly Funk had a double and two RBI to help Ichabod Crane (3-2, 3-3) beat Voorheesville, 7-6.

Amanda Gatt went 4-for-4 with a double and four RBI for the Blackbirds (2-2, 2-2), and Bryn Davies had three singles, two RBI and three runs. Gatt started in the circle and struck out 11 batters.

Seven runs in the sixth inning blew open Albany Academy’s 12-1 win over Lansingburgh. Carylann Geddes had a triple, two doubles and a single, driving in three runs. Becca Smith had three hits, while both Alessandra Archino and Ali Miller had two hits, and all three girls drove in two runs. Nyla McCarthy also had two hits for Academy.

Rachel Gamache hit a home run and two doubles to lead Duanesburg (5-0 WAC, 5-0 overall) past Middleburgh, 11-3. Ress Bloom added two singles in the win.

Middleburgh was led by Bailey Wood with a two-run single.

Schuylerville’s Katie Lehan had two doubles, two singles and an RBI in an 18-2 non-league win over Galway. Sara Baker homered and singled, Jessica Kelleher had a triple and two singles, and Alyssa Carter singled three times.

Galway’s Rebekah Reichard doubled, and Emily Zawisa singled and drove in a run.

Emma Willard pulled away in the late innings for a 16-8 Central Hudson Valley League win over Loudonville Christian School.

Sarah Graney had three singles and scored twice for Emma Willard (4-0, 4-1), and Hayley Kohler also had three hits. Abby Nissen

doubled, singled and scored four times. Caroline Polito singled twice and scored three runs.

LCS (2-2, 2-2) got a home run apiece from Ange Stephano, Kristin Hannay and Stephanie Zaloom. Stephano and Zaloom both added a single, and Hannay had two.
