Baseball: Queensbury hands Scotia first loss, 2-1

Eric Wettersten scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Queensbury a 2-1 come-from-behind Foothills Council win over Scotia-Glenville on Monday.

Wettersten, who singled earlier in the game and reached base in the seventh on a walk, escaped a pick-off run down before Eric Daley and Charlie Peltz drew walks to push him to third base. In the field, Wettersten made a sliding catch for the Spartans (4-1 Foothills Council, 5-2 overall) with two outs and the bases loaded in the sixth inning to hold the Tartans (4-1, 5-1) to one run.

Phil Wettersten’s RBI single tied the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Peltz struck out 14 batters and allowed just three hits.

Scotia’s Mitch Forshey had two hits and an RBI. On the mound, he struck out 10 batters.

Broadalbin-Perth’s Anthony Visco allowed only two hits while shutting out South Glens Falls, 7-0. He struck out seven and walked two.

Mike Visco was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Patriots (3-2 Foothills).

Glens Falls beat Gloversville,

3-1, with Dylan O’Sick and Quinten Austin both finishing with a single and an RBI. John Myers had two singles, and Mike Harrington doubled for the Indians (2-3, 3-3). Harrington also struck out seven batters in five innings of work on the mound.

Gloversville (1-4, 3-5) got a single and an RBI from Ben VanNostrand.

Nate French hit two singles for Hudson Falls in a 6-2 win over Johnstown. Tom Kiernan added a double for the Tigers (1-4, 3-4).

The Sir Bills (3-2, 4-2) got a double from Matt Szurek.

After Schenectady scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to take a one-run lead on LaSalle, the Cadets answered in the home half with two runs of their own in a 3-2 Big 10 win.

Jordan Bernacet hit an RBI single for Schenectady (2-1 Big 10, 3-1 overall) to tie the game, then Justin Parson provided the go-ahead squeeze. Guiseppe Garberg doubled earlier in the game.

Ben Beaury drove in the first run for LaSalle (7-0, 8-3) in the fifth inning with a single, then plated the tying run in the seventh by hitting into a fielder’s choice. Dom Razzano hit the game-winning RBI single to drive in pinch runner Nik Truesdell. Razzano struck out eight on the mound, and Tyler Gagnon added a triple.

Albany beat Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons, 15-1, with Quinn MacDonald going 4-for-5 with four RBI. Paris Williams was 3-for-4 with four RBI.

Kyle McAlonie was 4-for-4 with a run and two RBI for Shenendehowa in a 3-1 Suburban Council win over Guilderland, driving in the tying run in the second inning and the winning run in the fourth.

Justin Yurchak was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Plainsmen, and Matt Buckley doubled.

The Dutchmen got a double from Patrick Verrelli, and Cory Moore’s single drove him across the plate in the second inning.

Greenwich handed Hoosick Falls its first loss of the season, 4-1, with Cori Winch throwing a complete game, striking out 13 batters and allowing no earned runs.

At the plate, Winch had an RBI double and scored a run for the Witches (4-1, 8-1).

Hoosick Falls (3-1, 5-1) got a double and a run from Logan Brogue.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo got its first win of the season as Maclin Norray struck out 10 while walking just one over seven innings to beat Duanesburg, 3-2.

John Lucas was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base for BKW (1-4, 1-5), which rallied after Duanesburg (4-2, 4-4) went ahead, 2-0, in the fourth.

Fort Plain scored a 7-0 win over Schoharie (2-1), with hurler Chris Hanifin striking out six in a complete game and allowing just one hit, a single in the third inning. Marcus Failing had a single, a triple and two RBI for the Hilltoppers (6-0), and Dakota Nemediek singled twice and drove in two runs.

Canajoharie’s Tom McLaughlin doubled and singled in a 17-4 win over Sharon Springs. Jace Fox added a double for the Cougars (4-2, 4-2), and Buck Anderson hit two singles.

Mekeel Christian Academy led off the game with nine runs in the top of the first inning en route to a 17-10 win over St. Johnsville. The Lions (3-2, 4-2) got two doubles from Rhein Zeronda on the day. Tyler Guido added a single and a double.

The Saints (2-3, 3-3) got a single and a double from Devan Battisti.

Mike Naughton and Ryan Czarnecki both had four hits for Sar­atoga Central Catholic, including a double for Czarnecki, in a 20-1 win over Mayfield. Five more players had multiple hits for Saratoga Catholic (4-0, 4-1).

Jake Moline allowed one run on two hits in six innings of work on the mound, striking out nine.

Mayfield (2-5, 2-6) got a pair of hits from Ryan Hennessy.

Jimmy Hamilton had two hits and an RBI for Schalmont in a 7-2 Colonial Council win over Ich­abod Crane. Pitcher John Pascarella struck out six batters and added an RBI single to help his own cause as the Sabres moved to 3-3 in the league and 6-3 overall.

The Riders (3-2, 3-7) got two singles and two RBI from John Heeder.

Lansingburgh (4-1, 4-6) topped Cobleskill-Richmondville, 11-1, with two hits from Connor Zanda. The Bulldogs got an RBI single from Kevin VanValkenburg.

Joey Palin threw a complete game, striking out eight as Cohoes beat Watervliet, 12-1. Max Carey was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, a home run and four RBI. Nick Ernst added a home run and two RBI for Cohoes (4-6).

Three Saratoga Springs pitchers combined to no-hit Bishop Maginn in a non-league 31-0 win.

Alex Chandler was 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs for the Blue Streaks (5-4). Kris Muller was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs, and Greg Talamo was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Ben Place doubled, scored four times and drove in two runs.
