Lacrosse: Lady Patriots suffer overtime loss

Nell Guarino scored with 4.5 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and Catie Vivian tallied the game-winner on an assist from Sarah Hummel to lift Holy Names over Schenectady, 13-12, in a Capital District Women’s Lacrosse League match Friday.

Vivian and Sally O’Toole scored four goals apiece for Holy Names. Marji Drahan produced four goals, and Briona Richmond and Dahreaquah Henderson contributed three goals each for the

Patriots.

Emma Malicki fired in 10 goals, and Emma Hardy added five goals and seven assists, as Albany Academy for Girls clipped Emma Willard, 18-12.

Francesca Gundrum, Natalie Kiley-Bergen and Xani Schultis tallied three goals apiece for the Jesters.

In the Foothills Council, Queensbury rode five goals from Mary Rahal to beat Schuylerville, 17-11.

Christie Raymond and Casey White found the net three times each for the Spartans.

Monica Harvey and Lydia Knapp scored four times apiece in Glens Falls’ 13-5 decision over Johnstown.

Maty Cifone and Adair Pumer tacked on two goals apiece for the Indians.

Jillian Macri scored three goals, and Anna Picardi had a goal and three assists, leading 9-4 Niskayuna past Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, 12-10, in a Suburban Council game.

Nicole Beardsley and Emily Ankabrandt both scored three goals for Burnt Hills.

Columbia beat Averill Park, 13-9, behind four goals apiece from Helena Maiello and Gabby Childrose.

The Blue Devils improved to 6-6. Averill Park fell to 2-9.

Jeremiah O’Connor made four saves and recorded a shutout as Queensbury blanked Johnstown, 16-0, in a Foothills Council boys’ match.

Ben Willows registered seven points with three goals and four assists, Ryan Conway contributed three goals and five assists, and Braden Kietzman tallied three goals for the Spartans (5-0, 8-4).

Ben Connelly’s three goals pushed Scotia-Glenville over Glens Falls, 7-4, in another Foothills game.

The Tartans improved to 9-3.

The New York State Sportswriters Association’s top-ranked Class B boys’ lacrosse teams will collide tonight at 7 when No. 2 Niskayuna travels to No. 1 Jamesville-DeWitt.

The teams met last season at Jamesville-DeWitt, and Niskayuna came away with a 17-10 victory.

Niskayuna improved to 11-0 Thursday with a 17-1 win over Bethlehem. Its record includes victories over a pair of state champions from the 2012 season in Darien (Connecticut) and Duxbury (Massachusetts). Jamesville-DeWitt slugged New Hartford Thursday, 20-3.

Niskayuna, in Class A, and Jamesville-DeWitt, in Class B, both reached the semifinals of the state tournament last season and lost by three goals. Jamesville-DeWitt captured state Class B championships in 2011, 2010 and 2007.
