School softball: ND-BG defeats Albany, 8-1

Joelle Salisbury threw a four-hitter and drove in a pair of runs Wednesday as Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons beat Albany, 8-1, in a Big 10 softball game.

Salisbury had three hits and drove in two runs. Alyssa Salisbury and Caroline Bouchard also knocked in a pair of runs as Bishop Gibbons finished 9-3 in second place in the Big 10.

Big 10 champ Troy wrapped up a 12-0 league season with a 15-0 victory over Amsterdam as Kaitlin DelSignore drove in six runs with a grand slam, single and double.

Victoria Hallett added two hits and three RBI to back the one-hit pitching of eighth-grader Hunter Levesque, who went 9-0 in league games.

Schalmont’s four seniors all had good games, as the Lady Sabres beat Cobleskill-Richmondville, 11-1, in the Colonial Council finale for both.

Leadoff hitter Erika Gogis had five hits to get to the 100-hit mark for her varsity career; Emily McLaughin threw a complete-game five-hitter in her first time in the circle since her freshman season; catcher Angela Yodis had a pair of hits; and Tori VanAlstyne had three hits as Schalmont finished 12-4 in the league and will take a 15-5 record into the Class B sectionals.

Maddy Badger had two of the Lady Bulldogs’ hits.

Cohoes closed the Colonial season with a 4-1 win over Liberty Division rival Mechanicville.

Brianna Bowen held 14-2 Mechanicville to six hits. including a home run off the bat of Erin Maloney.

Cohoes, which beat Catholic Central in a non-league game on Tuesday, finished 12-4 in league games.

Katie Beswick threw a five-hitter and hit a two-run double as Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk beat Holy Names, 9-1, to qualify for sectionals with an 8-8 record in the Colonial Council.

Beswick finished with three runs batted in. Teammate Bailey Kross hit a two-run triple.

Reychel Webster’s four hits carried Ichabod Crane past Lansingburgh, 9-1.

Shenendehowa opened a three games in three days stretch to close the season by beating Shaker, 9-1.

Erika Daigle fired a two-hitter for 13-1 Shenendehowa. She was helped out by Courtney McDonnell’s 3-for-4, two-RBI game,

Kelly Lane threw a four-hit shutout and struck out 14 as Colonie topped Columbia, 6-0,

Lane also knocked in two runs for 14-1, 16-3 Colonie.

Rachel Daugherty had two hits for 8-7 Columbia.

Winning pitcher Meagan Sullivan had three hits, drove in two runs and also scored twice as Bethlehem stopped Mohonasen, 8-3. The Eagles’ eighth league win got them into the Class AA tournament.
