AUBURN — Zachary Badanes struck out 12, and fourth-ranked SUNY-Cortland erupted for four runs in the seventh inning to oust the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute baseball team, 5-2, in the NCAA

Division III regionals Friday night at Falcon Park.

Bryan Mistretta drove in two runs, and both P.J. Rinaldi (2-for-3) and Tim Panetta added RBI hits for 37-10 SUNY-Cortland.

RPI (30-15) was led by Tim Le­Suer (3-for-4) and Nick Annunziata (2-for-3).

In the first elimination game earlier Friday, junior Tim Gallagher pitched 4 2⁄3 innings of one-hit relief, and junior Andrew Kalish added a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning for the game-winning RBI to help the Engineers beat Farmingdale State, 6-5.

The Engineers rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the opener.

Annunziato’s bases-loaded single and Nick Palmiero’s sacrifice fly helped RPI cut its deficit to 5-4 in the sixth inning.

Sophomore Tyler Listing walked with the bases loaded to tie the score in the eighth inning before Kalish (Shenendehowa) added his sacrifice fly in the same inning.

Al Mersman and Annunziata each had three hits for the Eng­ineers in the first game.

BINGHAMTON 3-4, UALBANY 2-5

ALBANY — D.J. Hoagboon singled in Mike Urbanski from second in the bottom of the sixth inning to help the Great Danes earn a split of their America East Confernce double-header at Varsity Field.

Binghamton won the first game in nine innings.

In the nightcap, an RBI single by Nolan Gaige and two Binghamton errrors helped the Danes take a 3-1 lead in the third inning.

Although Binghamton took a 4-3 lead in the fifth, the Danes knotted the score on an RBI double by Greg Muller in the bottom of the inning.

Kevin Archbold picked up his first save in the seventh inning.

In the opener, the Bearcats won on a bases-loaded wild pitch in the ninth inning.

Gaige went 3-for-5 in the opener.

LOUDONVILLE — The Saints threw nine different pitchers on the final day of the regular season and had their ninth-inning rally come up just short in a loss to the Jaspers.

Brian Fay went 2-for-5 with his fifth multi-hit game in the last six contests, and he drove in the Saints’ final run with one out in the ninth inning. But he was left stranded when John Rooney hit a fly ball to deep center and Mile Allen lined out to third.

Mike Fish went 2-for-4 with an RBI. He upped his batting average to .374 and leads the MAAC with 12 home runs, 80 hits, 49 RBI, 54 runs scored, 134 total bases and a .626 slugging percentage.

Freshman Tyler Martis added three hits for the 15-9, 25-28 Saints, who will be seeded fourth in the MAAC Championships that start May 23 at Trenton’s Arm & Hammer Park.
