SARATOGA SPRINGS — The Ballston Spa Blue team compiled a total of 510 points to win the Saratoga Regional Envirothon competition recently at Saratoga Spa State Park.
The event is hosted by the Saratoga Soil & Water Conservation District.
The winning team advances to a state competition on May 30-31 at SUNY Morrisville, with a chance to reach the North American Envirothon on Aug. 4-9 at Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont.
Students were quizzed on environmental topics such as aquatics, forestry, wildlife and soils.
They also had to pass a written test and make an oral presentation about rangeland management.
Sophomores George Stack, Felix Drescher, Elizabeth Altman and Jenica Acheta comprised the winning team. Georgiann Henderson served as team advisor.
Finishing second with a team total of 451 points was the Oppenheim-Ephratah Red Hawks, which included Tiffany Gallt, Ashley Hill, Cynthia Smith, Ellen Smith and Olin Rumrill. The advisor was Scott Harris.
The Saratoga Central Catholic High School Squirrels captured third place with 448 points.
