A Broadalbin woman faces fraud charges after state police said she wrote two bad checks to a local business, then tried to cover those checks with a fraudulently obtained credit card.

Troopers said Maureen R. Eberle, 51, was the subject of an initial complaint May 15 by Adirondack Harley Davidson after two checks she wrote, totaling $1,692.73, were returned for insufficient funds. While troopers were investigating that complaint, they were contacted several days later by store staff, who said Eberle had returned and attempted to cover the checks with a credit card that was later declined.

Further investigation found Eberle had fraudulently obtained the card in the name of a man for whom she was working as a home health aide, troopers said. Subsequent investigation discovered Eberle had written additional bad checks totaling $1,478.95 to other businesses and tried to cover them with the same credit card, troopers said.

Eberle was charged with first-degree scheme to defraud, fourth-degree grand larceny and issuing a bad check. She was released on tickets to appear June 18 in Mayfield Town Court.
