SARATOGA SPRINGS — The Saratoga Springs High School Drama Club has received awards for its March production of “Urinetown the Musical.”
The Schenectady Light Opera Company, which reviews high school musicals throughout the Capital Region, recently gave the performers its first-place award for the show.
Saratoga’s Allan Anderson, who portrayed Bobby Strong, won the award for male performer of the year, and Saratoga’s Emily Sayer, as Little Sally, was named female performer of the year.
It marks the first year the school’s performers have won the outstanding male and female awards for the same production, according to director Bob Berenis.
The Saratoga Springs High School Drama Club has received multiple awards from SLOC under Berenis’ direction.
It is the fifth time in 14 years the school drama club has placed first in the competition; it has also placed second for four other productions.
“Our cast of 43 this year included 19 freshmen and 10 sophomores,” said Berenis of the production.
“So despite the fact we are losing some very talented seniors, there are students ready to fill their shoes. We are looking forward to next year’s productions.”
