State police said they found more than three ounces of marijuana in a car during a traffic stop in Middleburgh on Tuesday night.

Troopers said they pulled over a Dodge Durango for speeding and smelled marijuana in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle uncovered 3.2 ounces of marijuana in a backpack and three pipes with marijuana residue, troopers said.

Jared D. Andrews, 22, of Utica, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor. Justin A. Reynolds, 20, of Clinton, who was driving, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and speeding.

Both were released on tickets to appear June 26 in Middleburgh Town Court.
