Repairs on movable dams are expected to be complete in time for the Canal Corp. to reopen on Friday

Repairs on movable dams are expected to be complete in time for the Canal Corp. to reopen on Friday the remainder of the Erie Canal shut down June 13 due to heavy rainfall.

Debris and the force of the Mohawk River caused damage to the stretch of unique movable dams from Locks E-8 in Glenville to Lock E-15 in Fort Plain, all of which have remained closed for repairs.

A Canal Corp. official on Tuesday said contractors worked through the weekend and had to postpone work during Monday’s thunderstorms, but progress could lead to re-opening the complete system by Friday unless unforeseen circumstances arise.
