Momentive Performance Materials has a new contract with its communications unions after the unions narrowly ratified an agreement this week.
Although one of the two Waterford-based chapters of IUE-CWA voted to reject the contract, saying it called for too many union concessions, almost all members of the other Waterford union and a local based in Willoughby, Ohio, favored it. Momentive also has a site in Willoughby.
The company began negotiations with the three unions in early June. A tentative agreement was first reached June 21, but a majority of union members rejected it. The two sides reached a second deal June 28.
“I’m pleased that our employees voted to ratify the contract,” John C. Dandolph, executive vice president and president of the Silicones and Quartz Division, said in a statement. “We believe the result was a fair and equitable agreement, and we now know that our employees agree.”
But many of the Waterford union members disagreed when they cast ballots Tuesday and Wednesday.
Local 81359 in Waterford rejected the second deal 231-346, while Local 81380 in Waterford accepted it 76-2. The Ohio local voted 50-0 to ratify it. So the total count was 357-348.
Neither side released details of the contract.
