Catcher Ernesto Genoves went 3-for-5 and drove in four runs Monday night to lead the Tri-City ValleyCats to an 8-4 victory over the Batavia Muckdogs in a New York-Penn League game at Dwyer Stadium.
Evan Grills got the win in relief. He came in in the fifth inning and held the Muckdogs to two hits while striking out two.
The ValleyCats, who return to Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Wednesday to begin a three-game series with Auburn, got to Batavia starter Jarlin Garcia in the second inning, as Jon Kemmer hit a two-run home run, and Tom Lindauer followed with his first HR of the season to stake Tri-City to a 3-0 lead.
After Batavia rallied to take a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth, Genoves belted a bases-clearing double in the seventh to put the ’Cats ahead for good.
Genoves closed the scoring with an RBI single in the ninth.
