Help is on the way for flood victims as Gov. Andrew Cuomo dispatches Flood Assistance Teams to hard-hit areas to gather applications for recovery funding.

The Fort Plain Senior Center, 204 Canal St., will serve as an operation center. It will open Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Teams will be accepting applications there from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, according to an announcement from Cuomo’s office.

In the face of the federal government’s rejection of help for individuals, Cuomo earlier this week came up with $16 million in state funding for flood-impacted homeowners in Montgomery, Herkimer, Madison and Oneida counties.

“Under the Mohawk Valley and 2013 Upstate Flood Recovery Program, the state is committing $16 million to ensure that hard-hit business owners, renters, farmers and homeowners have the financial assistance they need to recover damaged and destroyed homes and property,” Cuomo said in the release.

Homeowners, small business owners, renters and farmers in these counties may qualify for grants if they can document flood-related damages and other losses not covered by insurance.

In the case of homeowners, as much as $31,900 may be available to repair or replace roofs, windows, doors, siding, flooring, sheetrock, insulation, foundations, well and septic systems, electrical systems, fuel tanks, heating and water systems and appliances or for the remediation of environmental hazards.

People who lost their entire home may be eligible for a buyout, as well, according to the governor’s office.

Applications and other information can be found online at www.nyshcr.org. The full application is expected to be posted by Sunday.
