Police are on the lookout for a man who tried to persuade a teenager to get in his car.

The girl was walking to summer school at Gloversville Middle School around 7 a.m. July 15.

She told police she was on Cayadutta Street, near West Fulton Street, when a car pulled across the sidewalk, blocking her path.

The driver, who was alone, asked the girl where she was going and offered to give her a ride. She refused, but he persisted, telling her he was a friend of her mother.

The girl continued walking as the driver kept talking to her. She told police that the man said his name was Mike, that he was from Michigan, and that he was in town to sell real estate.

Eventually the man drove away. The girl reported the incident and police searched the area, but could not find him.

He was driving a silver, four-door hatchback. Police showed the girl pictures of cars, and she said it most closely resembled a Subaru Outback Sport.

She described him as white, in his mid-40s, with short black hair and a salt-and-pepper beard. He was wearing a white cap and a black or green shirt with a logo on the front left.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Det. Mike Jory at 773-4569.
