An Ichabod Crane principal has been selected as the new superintendent of the Galway Central School District.
The district’s Board of Education plans to appoint Shannon C. Shine as superintendent on Thursday at a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the high school library.
The board has searched for a year for a new superintendent after Kimberly LaBelle resigned last summer. William F. Scott has been serving as interim superintendent since then.
Shine will start his new job on Aug. 28.
“The Board of Education is very pleased that Mr. Shine accepted our offer to be the next superintendent for the Galway Central School District,” said board President Tom Rumsey. “After numerous interviews with the Board of Education, community groups and our administrator team, it was clear that he has the expertise, work ethic and character necessary to lead the district.”
Shine has served as principal of the Ichabod Crane primary and elementary schools in Valatie since 2011 and was assistant middle school principal from 2007 to 2011, during which time he also worked twice as the summer school principal at the high school.
He started his education career in 1999 as a teacher at Shenendehowa Central School District and completed his administrative internship at Shenendehowa in 2004.
Shine received his bachelor’s degree from Colgate University, a master’s degree in elementary education from the University of Bridgeport and a master’s degree in elementary administration from the University at Albany. He also holds certifications as a school district administrator, school business administrator and a school administrator and supervisor.
He is married with three children and lives in Clifton Park.
