Ryon Healy drove in two runs, and Lou Trivino allowed one run in 6 1⁄3 innings as the Vermont Lake Monsters handed the Tri-City ValleyCats a 5-3 New York-Penn League defeat Friday night a Centennial Field.
Herschel Powell, B.J. Boyd, Jaycob Brugman and Michael Soto all collected two hits for the Lake Monsters (20-19).
Gregor Conrad had three hits, and Jon Kemmer and Ryan Dineen had two apice for Tri-City (26-14).
The Lake Monsters scored twice in the first inning against Kevin Comer (2-3). Healy had an RBI double, and Brugman drove in a run with a single.
After the ValleyCats scored in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by D’Andre Toney against Trivino (1-2), Vermont added three runs in the third to take a 5-1 lead.
Boyd drove in a run with a single, and Healy and Soto both had run-scoring singles.
Tri-City scored on an RBI single by Kemmer in the eighth, and added another run in the ninth on an error, but couldn’t get any closer.
The teams conclude their two-game series tonight before the ValleyCats return home to host the Connecticut Tigers for two games on Sunday and Monday.
