ValleyCats' skid reaches eight games

The Aberdeen IronBirds scored seven runs off Tri-City reliever Andrew Thurman and sent the ValleyCat

The Aberdeen IronBirds scored seven runs off Tri-City reliever Andrew Thurman and sent the ValleyCats to their eighth straight loss, 8-4, in the New York-Penn League Friday night.

Despite the loss, the ValleyCats remained tied for first place in the Stedler Division, as Lowell lost to Batavia.

Aberdeen right fielder Connor Bierfeldt went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and four runs batted in. Trey Mancini went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs.

Bierfeldt belted a three-run home run, his seventh of the year, in the sixth inning to put the IronBirds up, 4-3. Mancini’s three-run triple was the big hit in a four-run Aberdeen seventh.

Brett Booth’s second RBI of the game put Tri-City (26-20) ahead, 3-1, in the fifth inning. Booth was playing in his seventh game since coming up from the Gulf Coast League.

The ValleyCats went 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position, and had two runners thrown out at the plate.
