The Tri-City ValleyCats erupted for five runs in the seventh inning and pulled away from the Jamestown Jammers, 10-4, in a New York-Penn League game Friday night at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.
The ValleyCats pounded out 14 hits, including three home runs.
Tyler White went 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBI, Conrad Gregor was 3-for-5, and both Michael Martinez and Jack Mayfield also went deep for the 31-21 ValleyCats.
Charles Basford (2-0) picked up the win on the mound after relieving starter Chris Cotton, who allowed eight hits and two runs.
Tri-City scored all of its runs in three innings.
After the Jammers scored single runs in both the second and third inning, the ValleyCats took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third. Mayfield and James Toney doubled before White hit a three-run homer to left.
The ValleyCats scored two more runs in the fourth on a single by Brett Booth, a double by Mayfield and a passed ball.
The five-run seventh inning was sparked by Conrad’s RBI double, Martinez’s three-run homer and Mayfield’s solo shot.
The teams play again tonight.
