The Halfmoon firefighter run over by a tow truck earlier this week was still in critical condition as of this morning, according to hospital officials.

Allen Ayotte's lower body was run over Tuesday. He sustained a broken leg, a fractured pelvis and possibly internal injuries, according to state police.

The 66-year-old Halfmoon man responded to the scene of a four-car drunk driving accident Tuesday evening in his duties as a veteran member of the West Crescent Fire Department. He was directing a tow truck that had arrived to the scene on the Exit 8 off ramp of the Northway when either he or the driver became distracted and the truck backed over him, said state police Sgt. John Phelps.

Ayotte was taken to Albany Medical Center, where he underwent surgery Tuesday night.
