Suspect charged with breaking officer's thumb

A Schenectady man being placed under arrest Saturday broke a police officer’s thumb, authorities sai

A city man being placed under arrest Saturday broke a police officer’s thumb, authorities said.

Ricos C. Clayton, 26, of State Street, is accused of breaking the left thumb of Officer Michael Randle, according to papers filed in court.

As Randle tried to handcuff Clayton at a Crane Street, he fled. During the ensuing struggle, Randle was injured.

He was treated and released from Ellis Hospital, according to papers.

Clayton was being arrested on accusations he broke his ex-girlfriend’s glasses and prevented her from calling police, according to papers.

He faces one count of second-degree assault, a felony related to the officer’s injuries.

He also faces one count of third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, related to the glasses, and misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and unlawful imprisonment.
