A convicted child molester and his mother were arrested after the pair allegedly worked together to put him in contact with underage boys.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Department arrested Curtis M. Mallon, 31, of Warrensburg, and Darlene Mallon, 60, of Queensbury, following an investigation into a tip that an adult man spent the night in a Lake George hotel with two juveniles.
Sheriff’s investigators said Curtis Mallon, a Level 3 sex offender, created a false identity on Facebook and had spent the night in the hotel with a 15-year-old boy and a 10-year-old boy, a violation of his probation, which barred him from contact with children younger than 17.
He was arrested Aug. 21 on the probation violation. Five days later, he was charged with failing to register his social network profile, a felony because of his sex-offender status. He allegedly set up a Facebook account under the name Joe Tadbit that he used to communicate with boys.
Police said the two boys he spent the night in a hotel with knew him as Tadbit and believed he was 18.
Mallon was arraigned in Queensbury Town Court and sent to the Warren County jail.
In 2006, he pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual abuse for molesting a 9-year-old boy over a period of about five months. That conviction required him to register as a sex offender.
Also Monday, the Sheriff’s Department charged Darlene Mallon with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. The arrest stemmed from allegations she provided transportation for her son and the boys, even though she knew her son was barred from contact with juveniles.
She was also arraigned in Queensbury Town Court and sent to the county jail on $1,000 cash bail.
The investigation into Curtis Mallon is continuing, as investigators believe he made contact with several boys. Anyone with information about him or his alias should call Investigator Mo Aldrich at 743-2500.
