A Malta man is hospitalized with serious injuries after police said he led them on a foot pursuit through downtown Saratoga Springs early this morning.
Police are unsure how he sustained the injuries, however.
Saratoga Springs police said in a news release that they first began pursuing 21-year-old Darryl Mount Jr. about 3 a.m. after officers assigned to foot patrol observed him slamming a woman’s head into a brick wall near the corner of Caroline Street and Broadway. When they approached, Mount fled.
Officers attempted to stop him as he ran south on Broadway, then turned into an alley on the north side of the Washington Building at 422 Broadway, police said. They even twice tried to deploy a TASER while in the alley, but both attempts failed and never made contact with Mount, according to police.
Officers lost sight of Mount after he ran into a construction area at the back of the Washington Building. They began an area check and eventually found him unconscious on the sidewalk that runs between Gaffney’s Restaurant and Izumi Bar and Grill.
He was taken to Albany Medical Center and remained there today, according to police, though no further information on his condition provided.
Mount has not been charged, police said, but an investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to call 584-1800 or 584-TIPS.
