Katherine Benson scored two goals in a span of six minutes in the first half Tuesday, leading Shenendehowa over Saratoga Springs, 3-0, in a Suburban Council girls’ soccer game.

Jaclyn Romano added goal as the Lady Plainsmen went to 3-0.

Eva Torncello produced a pair of goals as Shaker handed Niskayuna its first loss, 3-1,

Julia Lennon also scored for 2-0-1 Shaker. Rachael Walsh scored for Niskayuna.

Reigning Class AA champ Guilderland went to 3-0, beating Colonie, 4-1, behind a two-goal, one-assist game from Rebecca Golderman. Bree Ford and Emma Oliver also had goals for the Lady Dutch, and Lauren Kogelman picked up a pair of assists.

Alexis Eddy had the Colonie goal.

Sophomore Selin Gumustop had the goal, and classmate Miranda Manziano made a pair of saves as Bethlehem edged Averill Park, 1-0, the Warriors’ third one-goal loss of the season.

Kylie Arno, Colleen Maloney and Lindsay Mulligan scored goals, and Arno had a pair of assists as Columbia downed Mohonasen, 3-1. Alexis Dean scored the Lady Warriors.

Lexi Riffelbach scored twice, with Madison Purcell, Kelsey Moss and Nora Ball adding one each, as Catholic Central shut out Troy, 5-0, in the Big 10.

Kaitlyn Burkhart and Catie Fedullo had goals in Amsterdam’s 3-0 victory over Albany in the Big 10,

Volante Penzabene and Megan Kirby had the goals as Ichabod Crane stopped Mechanicville, 2-0, in the Colonial Council. Mechanicville goalkeeper Kim Thompson finished with 10 saves.

Sophomores Rachel DiCocco and Rachel Strijek both had a pair of goals, and five other players had one as unbeaten Schalmont rolled past Fonda-Fultonville, 9-0.

Ashley Hulbert was busy in the Fonda goal, stopping 17 shots.

Alexis Whalen had the winner as Lansingburgh tripped up Cohoes, 2-1. Dory Fitzpatrick also scored for the Lady Knights, who spotted Cohoes a lead on a Morgan Slusarcyk goal.

Chelsea Duncan finished with five goals as Voorheesville blanked Watervliet, 8-0.

Dom Puglisi’s two goals lifted Scotia-Glenville past Johnstown, 4-3, in the Foothills Council. Gracie Mailey and Maddy Carroll had the other goals for the 2-1-0 Lady Tartans.

Diana Horning, Megan Anagnostopulos and Jordyn Hale had the Lady Bills’ goals.

Brittany LaPlant had four goals, giving her 13 in four games and 87 for her varsity career, as Queensbury stopped Glens Falls, 9-0, in the Foothills. Claire Hubbs added three goals for the 3-0-0, 4-0-0 Lady Spartans.

South Glens Falls topped Gloversville, 5-1, as Gabrielle Kreppien had three goals, Chanel Thomas scored for Gloversville.

Abby Fountain, Annelise Rebel and Ashley Lefebvre all had three goals to lead Waterford-Halfmoon past Rensselaer, 10-0, in its Central Hudson Valley League opener.



Matt Nocito, Ryan Capron and Dane Manhey had second-half goals as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake defeated Ballston Spa, 4-3, in the Suburban Council.

Paul Boni had given the 1-2-0 Spartans the lead in the second minute. Nick Comiskey had two of the goals for the Scotties.

Nick Martin and Phil Barrett had the goals as Shenendehowa shut out Saratoga Springs, 2-0, to remain unbeaten through three SC games.

Dan Dinola set up a Jake Schmidt goal and scored a goal himself as Mohonasen drew with Columbia, 2-2.

Nick Moutopoulos, Dami Osofisan and Caleb Owens all had two goals as Albany Academy put an 8-1 loss on Cobleskill-Richmondville in the Colonial Council. Brenden Tracy had put the Bulldogs up early.

Dylan Hensel had three goals as Voorheesville blanked Watervliet, and Seth Scarano and Heriberto Gomez both struck for three goals as Ichabod Crane downed Mechanicville, 11-1, in other Colonial games. Logan Polzinello had the Red Raiders’ goal.

Charles Henle and Pat Castle both put in a pair of goals as Schuylerville knocked off Cambridge, 6-1, in a Wasaren League opener.

Dean Gazzelli, Jake Foley and Ian Cepiel had the goals as Stillwater topped Tamaraac, 3-0, in another Wasaren game.
